At least one new tomte every year is the tradition in my family. They are invading my home in every room as here in our sercretaire.
Tomte, Tomtenisse, Nisse or Elves are, specially in Christmas times, an old and important part of the Scandinavian Culture. The tomte live in your home, usually in the loft or in the barn. If you treat them well, they will look after you and your home. If you don't, they can be a real trickster! An important tradition is that on Christmas Eve, you must feed them a nice big bowl of rice porridge with a big pat of butter!
